Among these, Wat Phra Si Sanphet stands out as one of the most important and impressive temples in Ayutthaya. Wat Phra Si Sanphet was once the royal temple of the Ayutthaya Kingdom and served as the main temple for the royal family. The temple complex consists of three towering chedis, or stupas, which were used to house the ashes of the kings.. Without a doubt, Phra Si Sanphet Dayan was the most revered Buddha image in the Ayutthaya Kingdom, equal to the Emerald Buddha in Bangkok today. The image also gave the temple its official name. Unfortunately, it got heavily damaged in the Burmese sack of Ayutthaya in 1767. Only the copper core of the statue remained.

Wat Phra Si Sanphet is situated on the city island in the Ayutthaya Historical Park in the Pratu Chai Sub-district. It has been registered as a national historic site by the Fine Arts Department since 5 March 1935 CE. This monastery was the most important temple of Ayutthaya and was situated within the Grand Palace grounds.. Wat Phra Sri Sanphet is located in Pratu Chai subdistrict, Phra Nakorn Si Ayutthaya district, Ayutthaya province. The Temple is not only a significant historical site, but also considered as the spiritual center of Thais for a long time. Situated within the royal Palace grounds, Wat Phra Sri Sanphet is the royal monastery and therefore no monk.
