I want to get this fixed as handing my car down to wifey and don’t want any issues.. Gender:Male. Location:West Midlands. Interests:Detailing. My Ride:Boxster 981s. Posted May 3, 2019. I had play in one of my inner steering rack arms, nothing to worry about but they will start to knock and the steering isn’t as precise. About £40 each for the parts plus labour and a 4 wheel alignment 👍.

Replacing trackrodend ball joints How a Car Works
The correct procedure is to measure free play at the steering wheel , this must be done with the engine running and vehicle on the ground. If you jack a vehicle up and let the wheels hang and without the engine running there will always be a small amount of free play in the knuckle joints in the steering rack as these are pre-loaded sprung.. Reassemble the ball joint with some lubricant. Drill a 3mm hole as was done previously. Insert a 3mm welding rod in the hole and aim to cut it off flush with the outer metal joint. Use a centre pop to effectively lock the new locking pin in place, then refit the Track rod to the car.
